weekend fun

So this last week found us in Las Vegas doing the Las Vegas Ragnar. Quite the run I might add. It is a 188 mile 12 man relay team. I must say that we did quite well. I ran it with two of my neighbors and some other friends, our team name was Valley OB (our sponsor was our neighbor and he's an OBGYN). That is why our team motto was "what happens in Vegas we treat in Provo", and yes Scott has quite the sense of humor.


Anyways we started Friday morning and ended 28 hours later Saturday afternoon. My first run was in 91 degree weather and that sure worked my fat butt. The other runs were in the night and early morning and were cake walks compared to Fridays run. I averaged in the high sevens and had an awesome time. What made it fun was all the unique Vegas runners that were there, like guys in speedos running it and gals in thongs and bras, there certainly was a unique flair there.

Heres a picture of dude with the medal, he thinks that he is doing it next year. The other pic is of my toes. Everytime I train for one of these my toe nails fall off... I guess it is quite common but hurts none the less. Anyways well worth it and something I plan on doing again.

ONE TOUGH WOMAN..

ONE OF THE REASONS I MARRIED JILL IS THAT SHE IS ONE TOUGH WOMAN. SHE HAS BEEN IN CROSSFIT FOR OVER A YEAR NOW AND RELIGIOUSLY GOES ATLEAST FOUR TIMES A WEEK AND IT REALLY SHOWS.

Damn, I am tired......

If there is one thing that Dude can do it is sleep. Came home today and he was passed out in his little preschool shirt. Even passed out he is cute.

Dirty Dash

So Leigh Anne called me thursday and said that she couldn't run her yearly dirty dash and gave Tanner and I her tickets. It is a 10k army style race. Every couple hundred yards there was an obstacle like ropes, tires, fences, swamps, water hazards, and let me tell you it was dirty. I ran it with Tanner and his little punk high school buddies. I wish I was 16 again.... Next time you see Tanner ask him why his uncle was able to take pictures at the end. (it was because I was waiting for them) Anyways it was fun, definately something I would do again.

Red Rock Relay

Last weekend Jill and I went and did the Red Rock. We went with her Crossfit buddies and let me tell you it was really fun. It is a 12 person 186 mile relay race that starts in Brianhead Ski resort and ends in Zions National Park. We started 3:00 Friday afternoon and ended 5:00 Saturday. Jill and I have been training for it, but we should have been doing more hills because the elevation changes were really extreme. Each runner had to run three legs of the race and averaged 5 to 8 miles per run. One thing that I learned is that Jill is one tough chick, she hammered away at all her runs and never complained once. All in all it was a great experience, never got more than a couple hours sleep, but that just makes the experience that much better. The only part that was hard was right at the end. We were kicking it at the finish line waiting for the last runner to come in and found out that he couldn't run because of an injury so I had to go out and relieve him and finish out his leg. Let me tell you that takes a little bit of mental willpower. Anyways we had fun, came home tired, a little sunburnt and sore. On to the next one, Ragnar Las Vegas in October (I think I will train on a few more hills first).

Kids First Day of School

Here are a few pics of the kids as they head off to school. Kait is starting kindergartern, Kinlee is starting 4th grade and Dylan is starting 7th grade. Summer is over and off they go. Kait can already read , write, add, subtract, no offense against Chuck and Larry but I don't remember them being able to do this at that age. Dylan is entering an advanced PUPS program at Provo High and won't be attending Junior High. He doesn't seem too concerned and takes Dads teasing about "hitting on all the high school girls" with stride. His classes are on the Provo High campus eventhough he is only in 7th grade, so we will see how that goes. Dude is going to preschool with his little red-headed buddy Logan. He came back after the first day with his preschool t-shirt that says "what happens in preschool, stays in preschool." Isn't that the truth! Anyways the kids were excited and mom was excited to see them go.

PIONEER DAY CLASSIC

So yesterday Jill and I ran the little pioneer day classic 10k. We did it last year and I shaved two minutes off of my time and Jill shaved a minute. I would have done it faster but I stopped at mile 5 for some twinkies. I did learn two new running terms "stomped" and "chicked". This is when a guy or girl passes you. The reason I say this is that some people are just made to run (me not included). Around mile five I am going along fine averaging a 7:30 minute mile and feeling pretty good when this young girl that I saw at the hobbler half comes up next to me and says "well hello again" as she passes me, just like she did at the hobbler half, thus I got "chicked" by her twice in one month. All that went thru my mind was "wench" as she passed me. Some people are truly meant to run. Jill and I just like going and running. We are training for the Red Rock Relay which is a 186 mile 24 hour 12 person relay race that goes on down south next month. So we will see how that goes.

Ever wondered what a fat almost 40 year old guy running half marathons looks like... well here you go. In my defense I ran it pretty quick 1:41 was my time which is a 7:50 minute mile. Even at that I got smoked by a lot of quick runners.

A Typical Vacation.

When I was typing that last post this picture hit me as kind of funny. Here is a normal vacation for us. Dude won't turn around because he thinks the picture is stupid. Kinlee is trying to get him to turn around (she is quite the mother), Kate could care less and Dylan is yelling at them both to turn around so we can just get the dumb picture over with. So here is a before and after shot.

39 Forever....

Today is Jills birthday. Here is just a quick pic of her last week in Glacier National Park. She looks as good today as when we got married. Happy birthday baby.

UTAH VALLEY 1/2

Nothing like getting up at four in the morning and going for a run.... Last week we ran the Provo half marathon. Got up at four, rode the yellow bus up Provo Canyon only to promptly come right back down again. It was fun and there where a lot of people there (4000 registered). Jill did great and completed it in a little over two hours. I was lucky to do 1:41 but was a minute and half longer than last 1/2 (give me a break I just turned 39). Anyways we had fun and are going to do the Hobbler Half in four weeks.

Run Forest Run...

Here is Jill after completing the memorial day 10k. We both shaved 4 minutes off of our time from last year. Anyways just a nice warm-up for our 1/2 marathon in two weeks.

Dylan and Kaitlyn's graduation

This week has been busy with the last week of school. Dylan had his 6th grade graduation on Wednesday. He earned the Citizenship award and the Quest for Excellence Award. Here he is looking handsome...

Katy had her pre-school graduation on Thursday and was looking very ladylike as you can see in this picture... hee hee. Ok, the chairs were a little small for her. She IS the tallest one in the class. :)


Here is Katy with her preschool teacher, Tracey. She was awesome and we loved her very much. Hopefully Dude can go there when he's 4.

BEST FRIENDS

One of the nicest things about the two youngest Dude and Kate is that they are best friends.. Seriously they do everything together. It starts in the morning (this is them around the breakfast table), and it doesn't end till the day is over. They rarely fight and you can tell there is a special bond with them. I have noticed that whenever Dylan picks on Kate (which he does a lot) Dude will instantly go after him. Here are a few more dressup pictures of them. In Dudes defense I am pretty sure that he has absolutely no clue what is going on, or what wearing that dress implies. He just wants to be with his best bud. It is nice to see this special bond.

Kinlee started playing soccer a few weeks ago and here is a picture of her cute team. She is in the back next to the coach. It's been fun, but very cold. She's even played in the pouring rain and her team does really well. We'll see if she wants to do it again next year... not sure if she loves it or not yet :)

Garmin is not my friend.

So its that time of year again. Jill says I am getting fat so I need to start running again. So I started running a few weeks ago and it feels good. For the last week or so I have been tracking my runs with a GPS. After a long sweaty run your mind tells you "I must have run atleast 4 or 5 miles, you look down at your watch and it reads 3.1 What the crap..." So Garmin is no longer my friend, my friends atleast let me fib a little, Garmin does not.
